Luxury Item of the Week: Sea Ray 540 Sundancer

2010 Sea Ray 540 Sundancer

With only a few weeks remaining to enjoy everything Lake Michigan has to offer to Chicago residents time is running out for all boating enthusiasts.  For those of you who have yet to enjoy a weekend out on the water, now is the perfect time to take advantage of one of Imagine Lifestyles Chicago luxury yacht charters before winter comes and ruins boating season once again.  Although there are a number of ways to enjoy a weekend on the water we are focusing this week on one of our favorite rentals, the Sea Ray 540.

Sea Ray 540 To truly understand the beauty and elegance of this yacht, imagine yourself inside a luxurious 2-bedroom condo decorated and designed with modern elegance and class.  Now take that condo and throw it onto Lake Michigan and you have begun to put yourself inside Sea Ray’s 54-foot palace on water.  Words cannot even begin to do this cruiser justice as it has every feature one could think of when designing a boat.  Ontop of  all this beauty and luxury  this yacht drives as fast as one of our exotic rental cars.

For starters, this yacht comes equipped with two bedrooms and two baths, hardly a common feature of vessels seen on Lake Michigan.  Marble countertops and cedar cabinets headline the kitchen and bathroom areas as flat screen TV’s and Bose surround keep everyone entertained.  The cockpit is fully air-conditioned if the August heat is too much for some of patrons on the boat.  For those who want to enjoy the warm and sun head up to the front sun deck and sprawl out on the padded sun bathing platform.

With a price tag of $1,723,378 and a boating season of just 5 months here in Chicago, the Sea Ray 540 might not be an economical option for everyone.  Take advantage of our daily and weekend rental rates and enjoy the yacht with friends and family without having to worry about loan payments and all the additional headaches of owning a boat.  Contact Imagine Lifestyles to schedule a luxury yacht rental today before summer passes us by.

Luxury Sport Yacht Charter-68’ Azimut

Thinking of hitting the high seas in high style, but feel that a luxury yacht charter is too large for your needs?  Have you considered a sport yacht charter, like the 68’ Azimut yacht charter?  These smaller yachts still pack the exotic punch, without the mega size.68' Luxury Yacht Charter Miami

Yes, a 68’ yacht charter is just the ticket for smaller groups and excursions.  It maintains stunning lines and sleek aerodynamics, with superior performance cues.  This Azimut luxury yacht rides on a hull with a deadrise of 16 degrees at the transom, and slides across the water to a top speed of approximately 40 miles per hour.  The comfortable cruising speed for this yacht charter is around 32 miles per hour.

For the performance junkies, the 68’ Azimut charter is powered by a 1,150 bhp MTU diesel engine that provides a smooth ride while propelling the luxury yacht through the waters.  The vessel stays below four degrees, at all speeds and thanks to the perfect amount of V, the hull slices through waves like butter, while still shallow enough to perk up and run.

As for the interior, there is a complete master suite that is just as upscale as any luxury hotel can provide.  The Azimut does however provide a better view, if I do say so myself!  So if you have been sea68' Azimut Yacht Charter Interiorrching for a new way to enjoy a long weekend, or even to make a memorable Saturday afternoon, a smaller yacht charter could be your creative solution to escape the everday.

Toyota Test Driver Hiromu Naruse to be Honored with Hot Hatch

Hiromu Naruse was an esteemed test driver for the Toyota team for 47 years, from 1963-2010.  For the past several years, he was the chief test driver of the amazing Lexus LFA supercar, and tragically, it was in an LFA that Naruse sadly lost is life on June 23rd, 2010.
Hiromu Naruse in Lexus LFA at Homestead Track
The fatal crash occurred on a test track near Germany’s famous racing venue known as the Nurburgring, where Naruse is reported to have left his lane and hit a BMW production car frontally.  Naruse was 66 years old, and a valued and integral part of team Toyota.  Naruse died doing what he loved, in the company’s first-ever attempt at a supercar, and not many can make that claim.

In fact, he was so revered that the company is now working on a hot hatch model to honor him, the model that Naruse had been lobbying for prior to his death, his favorite project.

Naruse's vision, which encountered plenty of opposition, was for the hot hatch to be affordable for young auto enthusiasts to own, and also that it be rear-wheel drive and high performance.

The new model will be based on the GRMN Hot Hatch concept and offer the performance experience, though with a smaller price tag than the Toyota FT-86. If it hits the market, the new hot hatch will likely start around $25,000.

I think it is very touching that Toyota is moving forward with plans for the hatchback, and having met Naruse personally and spent time with him during the North American Introduction for the Lexus LFA, I can certainly understand their passion for him.  Hiromu Naruse projected a quiet respect, yet a warm and almost exuberant expression.

I first met Naruse and the heads of Lexus Toyota at the Mondrian Hotel South Beach the evening prior to the Lexus LFA Introduction, where the company hosted a dinner at ‘Asia de Cuba’, the luxury hotel’s restaurant.  I was fortunate to be seated across from Naruse and his translator.

Throughout dinner Naruse engaged me, teaching me a few Japanese phrases, which came in handy on the track the next day.  The words for “awesome” and “mediocre” I can still pronounce, but I dare not attempt to spell.   His passion for the LFA supercar and the company were evident, as he showcased the luxury car’s high points to me.

After dinner, Naruse pointed out which desserts he found to be the best, rating them in order enthusiastically.  His playful yet serious demeanor was infectious, and after the day on the Homestead Track, Naruse treated me to a special lap in the LFA, including the sharp turns of the embankments, which were supposed to be closed off to press members.  It was an honor and a privilege to experience the power of the Lexus LFA with one of the best drivers in the world.

Domo Arigato”, Hiromu Naruse, for the LFA experience that only you could provide.

Mel Gibson, Lethal Weapon to Women and Luxury Cars?

It seems that Mel Gibson has certainly had his fair share of bad luck lately, and the streak continues, as he has reportedly crashed his 2008 Maserati Quattroporte into a rocky hillside on a difficult section of Malibu Canyon Road.  Mel’s Maserati was towed from the scene, and the actor was uninjured in the collision.  I can’t say the same for his already tattered reputation.
Mel Gibson's 2008 Maserati Quattroporte Crash
California Highway Patrol asked Gibson if he had been using a cell phone at the time, and he denied it (I am sure records will be pulled from his provider, as is becoming common).  The police do not suspect the star of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.  It certainly appears that Gibson is hard on things, reportedly his ex, and now luxury cars.  Do not sell this man a Ferrari 458 Italia, my heart couldn’t take it.  TMZ photo taken shown at right.

The Maserati Quattroporte is a larger luxury sedan, with 4-doors.  It is not as flashy as the Ferraris, Aston Martins, Lamborghinis, Bugattis and other exotic and luxury rental cars typically sported by celebrities.  This Maserati model seems to have boasted about 400 horsepower too many for Gibson, and a 4.2-liter engine.

I feel confident the $125,000 price tag was not an issue for the actor, and the repairs will likely only set him back roughly the cost of a new Kia death trap, but he could have sprung for driving lessons.  Can't afford your own?  Check out our Maserati rentals.

Mel Gibson’s life has become quite the soap-opera as of late, as he is under investigation for domestic violence after former partner Oksana Grigorieva submitted recordings of abusive telephone exchanges, along with emails she accuses the actor of making.  She also accuses him of knocking out some of her teeth.   Ouch.  Well, he likely bought them anyways.  Sorry, bad joke...I do not support violence.

Well, it certainly is a lot to sink your teeth into, just after the world seemed to have forgotten the infamous racist remarks Mel apologized for a few years back.  There was also the DUI arrest back in 2006, following which Gibson was fined and put on probation.  Perhaps Mel is a Lethal Weapon to himself nowadays.

Don’t forget to check out our fleet of luxury rental cars that we likely won’t be renting to Mel Gibson on your way out!  If he is interested, we do offer chauffeur services in any of our luxury rides.

Which Luxury Hybrid Pays Owners Back?

Can you guess?  According to a study of 16 different hybrid automobiles, only one can clLuxury Hybrid Carsaim to actually cost less to purchase and operate on its gasoline counterpart.  For those of you thinking Prius, think again amigos.

What?  It isn’t the Prius?  The hybrid car most associated with the word hybrid?  Shocker.  It has historically been a complaint that there is essentially no payback for purchasing a hybrid car, that they are more expensive to buy and cost just as much in fuel.  I mean, shouldn’t a hybrid return the initial cost of investment in fuel savings?

So which one can claim the opposite?  Drumroll please.  The 2010 Mercedes-Benz S 400 Hybrid gets that title.  A Benz beat the quintessential Prius in this department?  The Prius hybrid that sold over a million units?  Heads will roll.

Yes, the British Columbia Automobile Association projected the fuel costs of 16 hybrid cars over a 5-year span, against their purchase price and financing fees.  This study was released in late July, and only the Mercedes S400 luxury hybrid cost less to buy and drive than its gasoline counterpart, about $5,000 less over a 5 year period.

Mercedes has priced the S 400 hybrid at the entry-level S-Class price, and it gets around 27 miles per gallon (follow link for further info on the Mercedes S400 Hybrid).

Research by BCAA shows that price is not the leading factor when deciding to invest in a hybrid car, and that people are willing to pay more to reduce their carbon footprints.  I think personally that some are willing to pay more just to appear green and trendy, and that is fine too, as some pay more to appear rich and James Bondish. To each their own I say.

The future appears bright and green indeed for Mercedes-Benz, who is rolling out an E-Class hybrid and may sell the S-Class only in hybrid form by 2012 or 2013.  We may see the next generation of Mercedes hybrids compatible with diesel engines, as teased in the E300 Bluetec Hybrid from the Geneva Motor Show.

Keep it up MB, I assume other luxury hybrids are green with envy.

Want to Wrap $475 of Wiegand Around Your Wrist?

The M31 luxury watch by Wiegand is certainly attractive, and will set you back around $475.  We think it would look great dangling out the window of one of our luxury rental cars.

I like the sleek and understated elegance, and the chrome and red color scheme.  Picture this luxury watch with a flashy red Ferrari rental as a backdrop; even James Bond would take a second glance.  Ahh how we lWiegand Custom Watchove all that is luxury.  So what is so special about this particular wristwatch?  Here are some of its eh, specs:

•    Brushed SS finish
•    LUM-TEC MDV technology
•    Japan Miyota 0S20 quartz chronograph movement
•    316L Stainless steel case
•    Threaded caseback
•    Screw lock crown with double diamond sealing system

•    Sapphire crystal
•    Heavy-duty quartz chronograph movement
•    Double sided anti-reflective coating
•    Water resistant up to 330 feet

•    Includes 3 straps:  Leather with matched stitching and quick release changing system, custom molded anti-static rubber strap, and 316L Stainless steel bracelet with matched finish

Wiegand watches can go up to $700 and more, like the 500M-2 or 500M-3 models, but I like the unique style of the M31 custom watch.  The stitching is smooth and perfect, like a well-made designer handbag.

Well, if your girlfriend gets you this watch, you can always tease her that you would have preferred the Tour de I’lle, and explain to her in detail why you are worth the $1.5 million it demands. Yet for $1.5 million, I would rather invest in a couple more luxury car rentals to be honest!

Lamborghini Eliminating Manual Transmissions?

Luxury carmaker Lamborghini is apparently into trying new positions, market positions that is, as it is altering some of its design tactics.

The company has vocalized in interviews that there is a shift in focus from top speed to design, because many drivers will never take their Lambo past 200 miles per hour anyways.  What?  Who wouldn’t burn to take their shiny new Lamborghini up to top speed, if not just to see if you got your money’s worth?  That is like buying a Smartphone and only using to make calls.

Lamborghini Transmission Changes

Well, Lamborghini does their homework, and that includes follow up with past and current Lambo owners.  The future focus will switch gears from focusing on design, top speed, acceleration and handling, in that order, to design, handling, acceleration and top speed.

Handling is very personal to an owner, and the smart shift to focusing on the feel behind the wheel shows Lamborghini cares about what its clients/drivers want.  In that interest, the company noted that less than 5 percent of Lambo drivers opt for a conventional manual transmission, which has led to the decision to eliminate them.

Lamborghini’s six-speed box is a full 50 pounds lighter than the dual clutch, which is always a good thing.  The company is opposed to unequal gear steps, so no 7 speeds.  This could also benefit Lamborghini’s ongoing efforts to reduce fuel consumption and harmful carbon emissions for a more sustainable environmental future.

Direct fuel injection has been introduced in the Lamborghini Gallardo, with friction reduction technology on the burner.  Engine stop/start, flex-fuel, cylinder deactivation, hybrid tweaking and other components remain in the works for the exotic and luxury rental car mogul.  I wonder if the option to special order a manual Lamborghini will remain?  I assume this will always be an option for track-only models.

Most Expensive Apartment: $220 Million London Loft

Pretty Woman Penthouse Julia RobertsFor those of you who find New York to be expensive, take notice of London!  A luxury penthouse just sold for a staggering $220 million, located at One Hyde Park, a development in Knightsbridge.  This could be the most expensive apartment sale.

The prestigious One Hyde Park development features 86 luxury properties starting at the bargain rate of around $31 million. Interestingly, the sale of the $220 million dollar unit at One Hyde Park dwarfs the previous record holder in Britain, the James’ Square apartment in Westminster’s 8 St. that sold for $180 million in 2008.

The most expensive residential listing in New York currently is located Manhattan’s Upper East Side, at 1016 Madison Avenue, for $72 million.  That is roughly one-third of the One Hyde Park property!   Well, it is a penthouse, and I recall Richard Gere informing Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman” that the penthouse is the best.  He also explained that while he was afraid of heights, he was unsuccessful in his attempts to locate a penthouse on the first floor.  Funny guy. Well, Gere’s character would certainly be impressed with One Hyde Park, as it is a two-story penthouse.

So what will $220 million dollars worth of real estate buy you in a prime London spot?  Two-story penthouse One Hyde Park boasts breathtaking views of the London skyline including the Serpentine, private wine tasting facilities, an air purifying system and anything else your heart desires.  The sprawling 6-bedroom double penthouse also has direct access to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and its 24-hour room service via a tunnel.  Security measures include bulletproof windows, a panic room and protection from SAS-trained security guards.

I wonder where the unit's garage is located?  I assume the owner can afford to shell out a measly $200,000-$2 million on a luxury car or exotic car collection.  Where will they be stored?

One Hyde Park was originally designed by Sir Richard Rogers of architectural firm Rogers Stirk Harbor, and was acquired in 2004 by developers Nick and Christian Candy for around $235 million.

Ask Imagine: Top 5 Luxury Car Rentals Miami

Dear Imagine Lifestyles,

I am a regular reader of your auto blog, and am curious what your top luxury car rentals are.  What are the models that get rented out the most?  I am wondering if the rest of the world would rent the same ones I love.  I love the Ferraris, Lambos, Porsches and Astons.

Sincerely,

Mike, Tampa, Fl
Imagine Lifestyles Luxury Rentals

Hello Mike,

Awesome inquiry, I often wonder if other people are as into the same luxury cars as I am, where they prefer to stay, shop and be entertained.  To answer your question, I will tell you our top 5 luxury car rentals Miami.  The most rented exotic cars in Miami are:

1.    Aston Martin Vantage
2.    Bentley GTC Convertible
3.    Cadillac Escalade ESV
4.    Ferrari F430 Spider
5.    Lamborghini Gallardo LP-560 Coupe

The reasons vary as widely as the models and brands themselves.  The Aston Martin rental is popular likely because it is luxurious, yet nondescript when compared to say a bright yellow Lamborghini Gallardo rental, making it ideal for important impressions and business trips.

The Bentley GTC rental is a great option for a luxury car rental in Miami because it can also be chauffeured.  A Bentley GTC chauffeured is a great way to enjoy Miami without the hassles of directions and parking, and the convertible is a plus.  It also frees you to enjoy the sizzling South Beach nightlife sans fear of an unsavory experience, perhaps a Lohan or Hilton style DUI?  No thank you.

The Escalade rental is obvious, and quite popular with sports teams, celebs and other large groups as everyone can be transported comfortably together.  A luxury SUV rental is the way to go for groups.  We assume you have no interest in a soccer-mom mini-van.  Sorry soccer moms, if you are offended, you should take notes from the posh Victoria Beckham, the ultimate soccer mom.

Another popular luxury car rental in Miami is one of our newest, the Ferrari F430 Spider rental.  This one is popular because it is among the brands most recent additions to the luxury stable of prancing horses.  Ferrari fans often flock to the latest and greatest models available, along with their classic favorites.  Our F430 rental is classic Ferrari red with tan custom leather interior.  This is a great exotic car rental to just let loose and enjoy South Beach in.  Remember, a Ferrari rental is also acceptable to enter the Ferrari Challenge with, if you are interested!

Lastly, the Lamborghini LP-560 Coupe is frequently rented in Miami.  Ours is bright white, which looks amazing rolling down Ocean Avenue with the Atlantic as a blue backdrop.  This is just a fun car to drive, and works for business and pleasure rentals.

We hope we have satisfied your lust for knowledge on the topic Mike, let us know if we can assist you further.

Sincerely,
Imagine Lifestyles
