Will Land Rover Create Something Smaller than the Range Rover Evoque?

Will Land Rover be offering something even smaller than the exquisite Range Rover Evoque? It seems that they may be focusing in on something daintier to compete with the smallest of the small, as in one step above a sedan. Think in terms of the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3-both showing that some buyers desire that size range. Because the Range Rover Evoque is the 3rd best-selling SUV in its class, it is entirely feasible that a more diminutive sibling would be welcomed with open wallets.

Range Rover EvoqueThe Evoque set the styling standard for the entire line—with newer models adopting many of the cues.

The luxury SUV market is becoming more and more crowded these days, as companies are busy trying to outmaneuver competition. It truly was not long ago that the SUV market pretty much flat lined, but today the only concern for companies is having enough options to attract today’s buyers in the burgeoning market. That is because the SUV has made the most versatile and healthy comeback in automotive history thanks to futuristic powertrains and all of those amazing new gadgets. The inside of a Range Rover or other luxury SUV is something incredible to behold—from high-end leather seating to elegant trim and seamless infotainment features. Even a small Range Rover SUV could accommodate all of the cabin and performance expectation…will they ever end up entering the sedan or coupe arenas? It is certainly an amusing thought!

Range Rover EvoqueIf it is operations go on the mission, it should be a mini Evoque convertible, perhaps?

With many huge automotive shows coming up just around the corner, it will be interesting to see if Land Rover is going to go big or show off a new style of subcompact SUV. They will continue with their large and robust offerings without a doubt, it will be the little guy people are looking for this year!

Bentley SUV: Why They Landed On Bentayga

It is surprising enough that the Bentley Bentayga SUV exists, but how did they land on that particular name? The company selected ‘Bentayga’ for their luxury SUV to communicate the vehicle’s ability to function in a variety of terrains. According to Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer: “Bentayga is a name that reflects what we know our SUV will do better than any other car in the world—combine the best automotive luxury with outstanding performance to take the Bentley experience to new environments.” It is unlikely that Land Rover is very nervous at this point in the roadtrip, but let us go on.

Apparently parts of the word Bentayga represent various rugged terrains out there on this stunning planet. If that sort of thing fascinates you, consult the all-knowing and all-seeing Google and dive a bit deeper. The statement made by the name and the SUV format itself is bold, but is Bentley really trying to compete with reigning king that is Range Rover? Hey, go big or go home they say. There is also a video with the headline “Bentayga-the World’s fastest SUV”.

The clip above was released by the brand to show the speed of the SUV. It is always more appealing when it says: “Testing at undisclosed location” in agent-style typing.

The Bentley Bentayga SUV at a glance:

  • Previewing the new SUV has become a bit of a sport. So far, there is a dedicated hub on the official Bentley website providing details and an option to show your interest in owning one.
  • It is apparently the start of an illustrious breed of SUV—with a rumored price of around $229k. That is more than the Range Rover Autobiography, just to add perspective. Others could include a Maybach SUV, which is completely fascinating because that production run ended a few years back. An SUV Maybach would be nearly impossible to compete with in terms of exclusivity.
  • Power stems from a W12 engine capable of trucking it along to reach 187 miles per hour and an arsenal of high-tech terrain management gadgetry.
  • She shares a platform with the Audi Q7

The Bentley SUV concept first emerged back in 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show as the EXP 9 F. While Bentayga is also a stand out name, it is likely the better option because numbers and letters work best for things like C3P0 or a Ferrari.

The Current Bentley Flying Spur Brings Unexpected Speed

The first thing to do upon purchasing the 2015 Bentley Flying Spur would be to locate an open and unmonitored stretch of pavement and take it all the way up to speed…just once. The next gen Flying Spur is bringing it in the performance department, seemingly ignorant of that 2.7-ton curb weight! Brilliant. Some view the Flying Spur as a gracefully aging lady in need of preservation, but she can certainly hold her own and shock any unfamiliar driver.

Bentley Flying SpurPhotos  ©Bentley

The 2015 Bentley Flying Spur at a glance:

  • For just under $228k, buyers get a taste of the brand’s future: a 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 engine releasing 616 healthy horses onto the pavement
  • That price includes a modest destination fee of $2,725 and a punishment fee of $2,600 for inhaling gas like an alcoholic on a Friday at 5pm
  • Will the 2016 Flying Spur go a litter leaner on the fuel consumption with pending regulation on the matter taking effect? While many automakers are falling in line, some of the heavier machines may take a bit longer to catch up, no matter how fast they are!

Bentley Flying Spur

What some view as an elegant slice of environmental havoc, others see as rolling tradition with the potential to evolve. The Bentley Flying Spur has been around since 1957, with the first offering being a four-door touring saloon with coachwork by H.J. Mulliner & Co. Like with any home run, the model maintained its exclusivity through customization and limited production and now serves as an example of how the best things in life just keep up with the changes while holding true to their historic value. Bentley does offer a variety of other exotic cars and is likely to release its first-ever luxury SUV at some point, so overall, the heavier and more decadent Flying Spur deserves her place in the lineup.

Finally: Diesel Range Rovers For Sale in the United States

Not only will there be diesel Range Rovers available for sale Stateside at long last, but they will be modestly priced! It seems that the MSRP for the U.S. diesel Range Rovers is just under $68,000. The unprecedented move could attract an entirely new client base for the brand and perhaps lead to an enormous boost in sales. Worst case, it will simply make a handful of owners quite happy.

Diesel Range RoversPhotos ©Land Rover

Diesel Range Rovers are finally going to be a thing Stateside. It seems that the U.S. market is finally willing to re-accept diesel fueled offerings.

The diesel offering Stateside from Land Rover Range Rover is likely two-fold, working to boost numbers and also to conform to new and stricter environmental guidelines. These new regulations are taking effect in countries all over the world as they work together to reduce the negative environmental impact of all vehicles. The strategy to release diesel models to the United States was announced months ago and came as a pleasant surprise because many automakers only sell them to European and other countries. Now that many Americans are changing gears on how they view diesel, hybrid and electric automobiles, the market is changing shape.

The offerings will include the following 2016 Range Rover products:

  • The 3.0-liter Td6 V6 diesel will be available for just $1,500 more than its V6 petrol sibling
  • The Td6 Sport will begin at $67,445 with the larger Td6 coming in at $87,445

Land Rover is confident that the first U.S. diesel models will sell enough to cover any lagging sales elsewhere across the board. They will offer a fresh approach of options for U.S. buyers who have grown accustomed to standard gas-guzzlers. The market for diesel vehicles in America has grown close to 30% already, showing that many are open to change and not holding too tightly to preconceived notions that diesel fuel stinks. Think of the popular Volkswagen commercial with the old ladies chiming in on the matter when they say: “The pickup stinks with diesel”, bringing awareness to diesel while making it seem outdated to write it off—a brilliant strategy and cast. It was a fact in the past that diesel fuel held a more noticeable aroma, an issue that no longer exists with modern vehicles.

Available Aston Martin Bond Edition Eases Pain of Forbidden DB10 Car

The special edition Aston Martin DB10 may not be available, but the brand is releasing another 007-inspired model for mass consumption: Meet the fully loaded Aston Martin Bond Edition DB9 GT. No, it is not the same as the DB10, but it comes with a complimentary Omega watch and even has some of the decadent features from the exclusive Aston Martin One-77 model.

The Aston Martin DB10 was crafted specifically to wow fans for the latest James Bond movie installment called “Spectre”, which came out this weekend following many months of buildup. The Aston Martin DB9 GT Bond Edition features the same brilliant Spectre silver exterior coat and there are, of course, a set of special edition wheels on her. While there are no spy style weapons, bulletproof glass or ejection seats, the cockpit is lavish and it comes with the pricey Omega watch and matching luggage for stylish travel. This way, if the owners ever end up flying commercial, they can stand in any airport and glance frequently at their gorgeous watch while leaning gracefully on the luggage–tipping off passerby that they own a 007 car and would rather be hoisted away in a private jet. That really is not the point of the freebies; everyone knows that even the well-to-do types like free perks because it is human nature.

Aston Martin Bond EditionAston Martin has released that the special Bond Edition DB9 will enjoy a production run of just 150 units. The model celebrates the brand’s long-term relationship with James Bond and his fan base. It has been a 50-year love affair between the man and the machine, certainly a milestone worthy of the 6.0-liter V12 luxury machine pulsing to over 200 miles per hour.

The Fascinating 2016 Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce Roadster Rolls Out

The Raging Bull carefully selected the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance to unveil the fierce new 2016 Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce roadster. The release came on the heels of much teasing and detail touting—and the crowds were certainly pleased with the machine.

2016 Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce The 2016 Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce will leave treadmarks on the heart

The 2016 Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce roadster at a glance:

  • The Aventador LP750-4 SV is but the latest example of the powerful line, but she happens to have the bragging rights to being the first-ever Superveloce model with a convertible lid. That marks a first in a history spanning over 52 years of Lamborghini SV offerings—making it a bit of a big deal. Perhaps purchasers should be treated to a complimentary tee bearing the much-loved phrase: “I’m kind of a big deal”?
  • Onto the most important stuff: She is brimming with the expected Lamborghini power via a healthy 6.5-liter V12 engine pushing forth 750 horses from the stable. Most already knew the horsepower based purely on the use of the LP 750 in the name—because this is a brand that prefers to shout it out rather than leave it to the masses to just take a stab at it.
  • Performance times are as follows: The not to 60 mile per hour sprint is achieved in 2.9 seconds with a top speed of over 217 miles per hour. This is under the typical 3-second figure, indicating that it has been improved for the pavement rather than just the curb appeal.

Overall, the 2016 Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce roadster looks just like her hard-shelled sibling but features some sexier perks. When asked why this version was created the way it was, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann shared to various outlets: “We have a commitment to satisfying our passionate clients with immensely emotional driving dynamics combined with an extraordinary open-air experience.” Well, a supercar capable of reaching those speeds with a drop-top is most assuredly meets that very description.

Aston Martin CEO Pushes Tesla’s Ludicrous Mode Button

There are occasions to be reserved and gentlemanly—but the press is no longer one of those places, thank you Internet. Media outlets of all types have become a sort-of adult playground where players can freely express how they truly feel about things without having to ‘sugar coat’ it for mass consumption. Case in point: The CEO of Aston Martin, Andy Palmer, recently shared with the world exactly how he feels about Tesla’s new ‘Ludicrous Mode’. Recall that the ‘Ludicrous Mode’ is a button enhancing the performance of the Tesla Model S.

Ludicrous Mode

Palmer stated that he feels Tesla’s Ludicrous Mode is “stupid” and that he would rather have an electric vehicle that could last a few laps at a decent race course rather than one posing as a Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Ouch! Aston Martin is working on their own precious electric and hybrid powertrains, with murmurings about a potentially potent electric Rapide S and a DB9 gaining traction out there.

Aston MartinOne thing is for certain–whatever Aston Martin is planning to bring to the hybrid arena will be superior to the old Cygnet concept. Remember when all of the emerging hybrid concepts were tiny city cars enduring endless ridicule? Say that to LaFerrari’s face.

Palmer hit up Twitter to share the following brightly worded challenge to Tesla: “Aston’s insane mode comes as standard—no button required”.  A little humor and challenge can go a long way in social media. What will Aston Martin’s electric variant have in store? The company shared recently that it would be an electric Rapide sedan boasting roughly 800 horsepower with a 200-mile range. All of that electrified luxury will come at the modest cost of somewhere between $200-250k.

Enjoy the clip above to see passenger reactions to the new Tesla ‘Ludicrous Mode’. Spoiler alert: It is amusingly similar to the new group of mature Volkswagen ladies.

Citroen Cactus M Concept Incites Thirst To Learn More

Citroen Cactus MAll photos ©Citroen

French automaker Citroen just released sleek glimpses of their latest concept: Behold the Citroen Cactus M. The Cactus concept is actually far from dry and seems to have plenty to offer in several vital areas. It has been playfully described as the ‘French Jeep’ and certainly packs ample artillery in the way of a stylish and sporty option for those outdoorsy types who simply cannot tolerate the thought of a Land Rover. Let us learn more about the feisty new Cactus offering:

The Citroen Cactus M concept at a (rather longing) glance:

  • This cruiser is a convertible open-air crossover that proclaims to the world: Hey! Perhaps you do not need a motorbike to feel like you are flying free! Also, you can bring along more of your awesome things.
  • It is successor to the 2CV-based Citroen Mehari and other Cactus crew members
  • This model rides a touch taller with a more straight-standing windshield—a good indication that it is a beachy pleasure craft lacking the slightest inkling to rip it up in street racing on the weekends. This is a simple case of ‘when something tells you what it is–believe it‘.
  • While there appears to be suitable rear seating, the lack of…rear doors…leaves one to surmise that those riding back there must first earn the privilege by launching themselves up and over. They may also fold the seat forward, but where is the sport in that?
  • Back to that roof: It is an inflatable convertible top that doubles as a tent! That is correct—drivers can amble down any strip of nature and simply opt for an unplanned outdoor sleepover using their vehicle roof/tent. Why has no sport utility maker worked something like this out yet?
  • Other sporty features include: Waterproof neoprene seating, outdoor equipment rack options and nifty hose-out drains in the flooring to remove all that sand and camping debris. Brilliant.

Citroen Cactus MThe Citroen Cactus M concept is anticipated to appear at the Frankfurt International Motor Show where it will begin the quest to transform “Leisure into lifestyle”. It appears we must wait until then to learn about pesky points like powertrain and pricing. Stay tuned friends.

Why Ferrari Took Over a Gas Station

Luxury automaker and branding guru Ferrari has surprised the masses by acquiring temporary rights to a certain gas station. The move has nothing to do with any sort of energy battle, but rather, a unique way to allow fans to interact with the brand called ‘Casa Ferrari’. When I first heard of the story, my initial thought was that the Prancing Horse had perhaps purchased a gas station near one of their testing sites, alas, it was something completely different!

Casa Ferrari took Pebble Beach and Monterey Car Week by storm. The best way to get a feel for just how all-encompassing this event was is to take in the short clip above:

The events of the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance attract massive amounts of luxury and exotic car fans, buyers and manufacturers. Ferrari decided that it would behoove the company to rent out a gas station to reinforce the presences of the Prancing Horse (as if it could ever be overlooked), cater to VIP guests and prevent all of those fine automobiles from getting thirsty. The lightbulb/idea seemed to be a success because over the course of the event, the Shell station at the Carmel Highlands general store accommodated over 4,000 guests and countless exotic sports cars and vintage cars. The station was completely transformed into a picturesque Italian scene complete with test drives and elegant dining. This approach is much more attractive than the standard smattering of cars baking on the lawn coupled with the yawns as the day progresses.

Casa Ferrari

Ferrari chose the gas station to rent wisely, settling on the Shell in that spot because it has been a traditional sort-of landmark thanks to its prime location and the annual luxury Pebble Beach goings-on. Casa Ferrari ran from August 12-16th and provided an interactive outlet for fans and visitors, because Ferrari North America’s director of marketing and brand experience, Greg Adams, has not been impressed with how other brands approach Pebble Beach. Adams shared: “This whole event weekend was becoming a showroom on the green, and that to me was a turnoff.” To depart from the expected brand booth motif, Casa Ferrari boasted a bright white façade with Ferrari red shutters (think Enzo Ferrari’s home) and the gas station was reimagined to resemble a quaint but racy Italian villa. Outside, genuine Italian cuisine was served to the delicate acoustics of surrounding supercars. Now that is an image/experience I could get behind!

Casa FerrariFerrari is brave enough to be a Horse of a different color in a sea of commonality. The brand is known to be the first to switch gears.

As it would turn out, the owner of that Shell station happens to own a Ferrari. Well done Ferrari, well done!

What Happens When Buyers Demand A Street Legal Aston Martin Vulcan?

The Aston Martin Vulcan emerged and laid absolute waste to previous expectations of the brand. With radical exterior styling cues and a 7.0-liter engine with a serious drinking problem, it is no wonder buyers are now demanding a street-legal version of the epic beast. What is even better is that Aston Martin is actually entertaining the notion!

Aston Martin VulcanReports state that Aston Martin is indeed looking into offering a street legal version of the Vulcan, breaking the track-only variant out and onto the public ways. Aston Martin product manager Simon Croft shared that clients have expressed great desire to own one with street status. This does not mean that a toned-down Vulcan variant would be an ideal commuter—just that it would be legit to take out on the weekends and also to car shows and similar events. Let’s face the facts: feeding 800 thirsty horses is not a light expenditure on the bank account.

Aston Martin VulcanThe Vulcan seems to cater to a select breed of supercar lovers, with the Aston Martin racing attributes along with a look that can best be summed up as extreme. She is practically composed of just carbon fiber and can hold her own in most situations, racing or seeing who looks best.

Aston Martin VulcanThe idea of a street legal Aston Martin Vulcan would make sense, seeing as how it did work for McLaren and Ferrari with certain offerings. The astronomical $1.8 million dollar price tag of the precious Vulcan would likely be reduced along with a bit of her power, but that likely would not upset buyers. Just 24 examples of the Vulcan will be crafted, but if the street version emerges, it is likely to include a larger production run. Don’t worry—drivers likely won’t miss a roll cage when tooling about town.
