Bugatti has always been a name synonymous with perfection, speed, power and poise, but did you know that the exotic car brand can now actually say, ‘Well, hello there, I have the fastest luxury car in the world…what’s up?’ Yes, the new Bugatti Veyron has many luxury carmakers out there grinding their gears. I would like to see this Bugatti added to our exotic rental car fleet!
A little history: The original Bugatti Veyron nailed speeds of approximately 253 miles per hour, a record that was squashed by the SSC Ultimate Aero, by 3 miles per hour. Fast-forward to the 2011 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport; set to make its official debut in the fall at the Concours D’ Elegance in Pebble Beach, California. So what is the big news here? How about a pure unadulterated lust for speed, speeds of about 264 miles per hour to be exact.
Now that I have your attention, the 2011 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport tore up the test track on Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien, just outside of Wolfsburg, nailing a two-way average speed of 268 miles per hour. To put this exotic endeavor into perspective, this eclipses the original Bugatti Veyron by a full 15 miles per hour, which means it terminates the SSC Ultimate Aero by 18 miles per hour.
What is funny is that team Bugatti predicted speeds of 264 miles per hour that day. This brings new meaning to the phrase ‘Under-promise, over-deliver’. While all this is great, Bugatti is hindering the production versions of the 16.4 Super Sport to a limited 258 miles per hour, to protect the tires from certain demise. Another limiting factor by Bugatti is that the first 5 cars sold will be dubbed ‘World Record Editions’, and will only be available in orange and black, as pictured. All available production models after the first 5 will be custom, as one would expect from a $2.4 million dollar luxury car.
