When I approach a vending machine, I anticipate the usual fare-candy, soda, and salty snacks. There are, however, vending and even luxury vending machines out there that are far from the ordinary, offering up anything from haute couture to actual gold to marijuana, oh my!
The following vending machines stand out from the rest, offering up interesting and insane fare, for a fee:

5. Shoe Vending Machine
Yes, you can insert your money, though I assume quarters are unacceptable, and purchase actual gold coins from a vending machine! This reminds me of those cheesy commercials with overzealous salesmen all jazzed up about “I will buy your old wedding rings!” Sigh.
But it gets richer! When I stayed at the Mondrian South Beach I found a luxury vending machine in the lobby. I passed right by it at first, as it is nondescript and blends into the décor. In the luxe vending machine you can purchase anything from a Hermes scarf to a Rolex watch, you know, just in case you lost yours after a hard night hitting the South Beach scene!
The first two selections are luxurious, but there are also just plain odd vending machines, such as the ones in California where you can actually buy weed. From a vending machine. Set up for medical marijuana patients in LA, the vending machines are like vaults, requiring fingerprints to dispense the drugs and a pinch of DNA…ok, just the fingerprints. So do the local drug dealers feel threatened and blow caps into the vaults? Hmmm.
A little less intense is the 12-pack soda vending machine. Yep, in Texas everything is bigger, and instead of one lousy can, you can insert your money and receive an entire 12-pack of sugary soda goodness. No more waiting in lines!
Finally, you can also buy some new kicks from a vending machine. Who needs to try them on, right? The sizes are marked right where it normally says “E3 $1.50”. Wow.
