2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe Debuts in LA

Laying the smack down in LA, the Cadillac CTS coupe will join the sedan and wagon among the burgeoning 2011 CTS line-up. With striking lines and interior impact, the 2011 CTS coupe certainly seems destined for success.
Delayed by GM’s restructuring, the coupe was initially expected to be launched in May of 2009. Instead, the official launch occurred at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show. The newest addition to the CTS crowd is scheduled to roll into showrooms in the spring of 2010, with a high-powered V-Series edition arriving later that year. It is unfortunate that there will not, however, be a convertible version to compete with the Audi A5 and BMW 3 Series. It will be interesting to see if it makes the ranks of exotic rental cars.
Once you get past the new car scent, the aesthetics are apparent. The first two-door from Cadillac since 2002, the CTS coupe shares the same wheelbase as the sedan, but is two inches lower to the ground in true “coupe” form. The coupe shares only its instrument panel, console, front fenders, headlamps and grill with its sedan predecessor.
The CTS coupe features a hidden B-pillar, and a touch-pad replaces conventional door handles for a more upscale appeal. The impossibly steep angle of the windshield and rear window provides the sleek signature coupe appearance. The center-mounted dual exhaust does something for us, too.
Down to specs, the Cadillac CTS coupe features a direct-injected 3.6-liter V6 powering out 304 horses and 273 lbs/ft of torque. If you opt to custom paint yours green, know that you will only be getting about 17 miles per gallon and 26 highway, which is slightly less than the 35 which is becoming more broadcasted. The coupe is being marketed by GM as sort of the focal point of the brand moving forward, and it certainly creates contrast in the line-up.
