The Mercedes-Benz G500 vehicle was designed at the request of the Shah of Iran; has served as the official transportation vehicle for the Pope; and is used as in the military by most major countries. The G500 enters its 29th year of production, though only since 2002 has the G-Class been officially imported by the luxury marque. Since 2002, the G500 has been available new from Mercedes-Benz dealers, despite brief break.
At one time expected to be replaced in the consumer market by the GL-Class SUVs, G500 lovers protested and Mercedes-Benz relented. So, despite a history dating back more than a decade, the Mercedes-BenzG500 is still sold brand new. The G500 features full body-on-frame construction, three differential locks and heavy-duty plating underneath to protect against rocks. The G500 makes use of a 5 liter V8 engine that puts out 292 horsepower. It features a seven-speed automatic transmission with Touch Shift manual-style shifting.
Inside, the G500 has limited shoulder room and the historic boxy design. Yet, the G-wagon has been especially well built and remained contemporary thanks to technology upgrades. Standard equipment includes DVD-based COMAND navigation, a harman/kardon audio system, a multicontour driver's seat with pneumatic bolsters and extensive premium leather trim.
The G500 starts at $89,025 for 2008. Most G500s are special order cars only and rumor has it that 2008 will be the last year the old warrior is imported. Don’t miss out on a classic Mercedes-benz G500, rent the spacious luxury SUV today!
