I love skimming over your blog during my break everyday.  I just wondered why people rent luxury cars.  I mean, wouldn’t someone just buy a Ferrari if they want one?  I am trying to figure out the mentality in investing in a vehicle you will not own.

Ahh it is summer in Miami…and that means it is scorching hot, and I don’t just mean the sun.  Lining the streets you can see the plethora of luxury rental cars glinting in the sun, turning things up a notch for locals and visitors.  So are you ready to melt the pavement this summer?  I thought so.

Without further ado, here are our top 5 picks for the best Miami exotic rental cars for the summer from our luxury fleet in Miami:

For the Lamborghini fans out there, brace yourselves for the upcoming 2012 Estoque.  After years of casting around for a third model, the luxury car brand has decided that Manfred Fitzgerald, head of branding and design, has discovered a winner.

It is being coined as “the world’s first super sedan”, and it is dramatic. In its current concept form, it maintains the sleek lines Lamborghini is known for, but adds another set of doors.  It was revealed at the Paris Auto Show, and can certainly compete with exotic cars like the Aston Martin Rapide, Porsche Panamera, or Ferrari F430 Spider.

While pretty much all Aston Martin models generate attention, some get a little more.  Like the 1964 Aston Martin DB5, one of two DB5’s driven by the legendary 007 Sean Connery in the hit “Goldfinger”.  The other DB5 is believed to have been destroyed following its 1997 theft, making this one top dog.  It has had the same owner since 1969, and is about to hit the auction block on October 27th, 2010!

Technology is a constantly advancing field; we have the ability to utilize the power of the sun and even wind.  Now, thanks to a very creative engineer, we can harvest the power of even potholes!

Sound weird?  Certainly.  Levant Power Corporation is developing a new type of shock absorber that converts the jolts caused by driving down rough roads and potholes into usable electricity.  This could actually cause drivers to swerve towards potholes, if it didn’t damage the tires and rims.

No, that was not a typo in the headline; there is actually a stamp worth an estimated $2.3 million dollars or more!  It is the Treskilling Yellow, printed in Sweden in 1855, and was interestingly enough the result of a printing error.

Indeed.  It seems the story goes that rather than printing the three-skilling stamp on green stock, it was printed on yellow/orange stock paper.  It wasn’t until 1970 that the authenticity of this imposter was questioned by the Swedish Postal Museum, who then found it to be genuine.   Only one known copy of the “Treskilling Yellow” postage stamp exists, making it the most expensive stamp in the world. 

If you find yourself aching for an aquatic adventure, have you ever considered chartering a speedboat?  If you haven’t, allow me to introduce the XSMG Marine XSR48, the speedboat that is essentially a supercar, just add water!

I was watching a bit of Goldfinger the other day, which led to me inevitably fantasizing about luxury cars.  That thought train of course drifted to the Aston Martin.  Oh how I love 007 and exotic cars.

The Aston Martin Vantage convertible is the perfect warm weather luxury car rental.  While we have a couple of Aston Martin rentals, I do see them around Miami on occasion, and I also not the amount of heads turning when I do.  I guess 007 feels no need to be discreet while perusing around chasing danger in his luxury cars.  When I drive our Aston, I sometimes pretend that I am he, on a secret mission…but then some valet abruptly removes me from said delusion and I am transported back to a South Beach restaurant or event.  Sigh.
