As many of South Florida’s avid boating and yachting fans are well aware, the 2010 Miami International Boat Show is fast approaching, to be held February 11-15th in beautiful Miami Beach.

The Miami Boat Show will take place at 1901 Convention Center Drive, and at Sea Isle Marina & Yachting Center (the new home of Strictly Sail Miami), located at 1635 N. Bayshore Drive.  Guests can wander between the two fabulous locations via a shuttle service that will keep a convenient schedule-even picking up those arriving on American Airlines. 

The new Sea Doo RXP-X 255 is ideal garnish for your yacht.  This agile two-seater is capable of accelerating from 0-50 in a staggering 2.9 seconds.  I guess you could conclude that Sea Doo has made the transition from 3-seater station wagons on the water to aqua sex-god status.

Better known for $3,000 Birkin handbags and signature scarves, Hermes is testing the waters in the world of luxury yachts-with a concept that is making quite the splash.

In the world of super yachts, it is quite a feat to stand out among the millions, and that is dollars.  Yet the stunning and unique design of “Oculus”, a super yacht designed to resemble a sleek sea-creature, has managed to achieve just that.

Cab driver-turned-billionaire Tamir Sapir and his yacht were both seized by customs officials last week, in Miami. Tapir Sapir's $26 million yacht, the Mystère, was reportedly furnished in Versace and then some. According to the Miami Herald, the yacht also included "zebra skins, a jaguar skin rug, Bengal tiger and African lion heads, cigar boxes covered in elephant hide, a reticulated python cigarette holder, and large carved ivory tusks." Thanks to the Endangered Species Act of 1973, it is illegal to "kill, hunt, collect, injure or harass any endangered animals, or to destruct their habitat in any way. It is also illegal to buy or sell any species (or products made from species) listed as endangered."

The yacht will, of course, be returned to the billionaire sans the endangered animal heads and skins. Additionally, Sapir will have to pay a $150,000 fine, which is pretty irrelevant considering he is ranked number 522 on Forbes' Richest Americans list, net worth $1.4 billion.  After amassing a fortune bartering fertilizer and oil in the 1980s, his hobby is collecting dead lion heads, mind-blowing. Whatever happened to collecting Ferraris?

The world's most exclusive department store is Harrods of London and just in case that was up for dispute, check it out. Harrods has just added a private aviation program to services offered. To offer the firm's ultra rich clientele air support via helicopter and corporate jet, Harrods has teamed up with the UK based Watkins Yacht Management company. The two firms will offer a "streamlined luxury travel experience" for the wealthy at sea. Harrods will fly you in from sea to shop and back out to your yacht with bags in tote, luxury all the way is to be expected.  Next time you're on the mega-yacht and get sea sick, take a break, call Air Harrods and spend the day shopping  in London. Yachts, jets and Harrods, life doesn't get much better.

You don't need a mega-yacht to look good at sea. There are many other fashionable yachting options for the affluent, like the Aquariva Super motorboat.  The Aquariva Super for the halfhearted captain, who enjoys day trips and sunset cruises. Designed by Italian yacht firm Riva, the Aquariva motorboat is a 33-foot streamlined masterpiece. Riva has taken design cues from the legendary 1962 Aquarama yacht and then upped the ante. The Aquariva Super boat a luxurious blend of sinuous lines and precious woods. With special attention put to the carpentry, chrome, lacquer-work, and leather elements of the Aquariva Super motorboat.  The result is a truly super-boat, that imbues rugged spirit and elegance. The Aquariva Super is priced at $944,000 and can be purchased exclusively from Riva dealer's worldwide. In this case, being small doesn't diminish good looks and high-class.

A fast paced world calls for a fast paced super boat. The XSR48 boat is fast, quite possibly the world's fastest. The British built speed boat comes from Lymington based XSMG Marine. Launched last year by Prince Michael of Kent, the XSR48 seems to be satisfying people's need for speed. Power-driven by two diesel engines, 2,000 horsepower, the XSR48 flies to 85 knots. For you people who prefer fast cars to boats, thats about 100 miles per hour on the open water. On top of speed the XSR48 is rich, it has a high-spec entertainment system, with four 12-inch LCD screens, and luxe kitchen appliances. Very minimal, very modern and very nice to entertain a few people with. Only 100 XSR48 speedsters will be made this year and they will probably fly, just like they do on the water. The going rate for your own XSR48 is $1.8 million and absolutely worth the money, it's just a really swift toy to add to your cache.  

 

This Thursday October 30th though November 3rd is the 49th Annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. As we reported a couple months back, the World renown exhibit will be docked throughout six sites in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Upwards of $3 billion worth of mega-yachts, yachts, electronics and accessories will be available throughout the three million square foot space.

This year the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is putting an emphasis on going green. We are ecstatic to see the environmental trend growing into the sea.  This year we will see electric and hybrid boats, chemical-free boat cleaners, plus safer building materials and other environmentally friendly innovations. We will also see the debut of the Calypso 23e yacht. Propelled by the Whisper XT electric outboard, it is the World's largest electric yacht and requires no gas. You don't have to imagine going without gas anymore.

We applaud the going green push but the essence of the International Boat Show has always been glamour and luxury on the water. "A" is the newest affiliate to join the giga-yacht club. The ginormous luxury yacht named just "A", has a 757,000 liter fuel tank. Putting her size into perspective, this extoic yacht costs about $1.4 million just to fill her tank, that is if Diesel fuel costs don't jump. An easy million will get you about 15 days aboard this luxury on the water art at cruising speed.

The architecture of this elegant yacht meausres at roughly 387 feet long.   This includes the three pools, one master suite, six guest suites and 42 rooms for the staff.  This Giga Yacht is owned by Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko. Melnichenko had "A" built for about $204 million in Germany and that folks is a yacht of epic proprotion.

The Columbus Day Regatta is next weekend ya'll!  On October 11th & 12th one of the oldest Miami/ Biscayne Bay traditions will happen for the 54th year in a row. While some marine enthusiasts set sail intent on watching racing events that honor Christopher Columbus' voyage to America, the majority find Regatta just another way to party. Each year the yachts get bigger, the crowds more brilliant and the parties bolder. Picture Mardi Gras on clear bay water and epic boats. Topless women, drinking and drugs galore, and sorts of wicked debauchery, oh my. Regatta is slightly more refined, if you consider the fact that we are partying on million dollar luxury yachts and not Bourbon Street.  For the latter majority of party seekers, Regatta weekend is all about a race to outdo thy neighbor.  Last year we played on a Sunseeker Predator 82- foot motoryacht but even with a $5 million dollar boat we were lost amongst the crowd.  If you've done Regatta weekend you fully understand the gist, if you haven't we suggest you get on it. Many people fly in just for the weekend and the insane 48 hour party marathon that is Columbus Day Regatta.

Ya'll were probably too busy in the action packed James Bond flick, Casino Royale, to notice the Real Bond girl who only got her 5 minute debut. No need to worry, we are about to tell you all about the bodacious Bond girl named Predator. Her size is 108, that is 108 feet and she was birthed by Sunseeker.  What kind of girl name is Predator you may ask? it's a fierce model name for the fiercest of motoryachts.   If you can afford the $10 million Megayacht pricetag then give her any girly name you want, she'll always be a Predator.

Her 84 tons half-load weight is hefty but she is no laggerd, the Predator skillfully advances to 40 knots ahead. That may not seem fast to you land lovers, so let us put it into terms you can understand.  The Predator 108-foot's weight is on par with the combined weight of 42 Rolls-Royce Silver Clouds. Now, imagine what it's like firing up 42 Rolls at once,  while casually sitting in a Besenzoni helm chair. One hand on a carbon-fiber wheel, the other on a set of MTU electronic engine controls Then  accelerating from 0 to 50 miles per hour in just under one minute, incredible. The Sunseeker Predator 108 has big, Arneson drive-powered, performance engines and was built to Italian classification society RINA's 100 A-1 specifications. She's available in twin straight-inboard and triple-Arneson versions, and there are two basic layouts.
Strict R& R is the 108's only raison d'etre, not cheap practicality. The saloon/helm area is gorgeous, the ceiling height is of palatial proportions. Niceties include a dumbwaiter from the galley below; a lofty helm area with four inviting Besenzoni helm chairs; a top-shelf Linn home-theater system with hard-disc music library and 42-inch retractable LCD TV; a dining table for eight; and easy sliding-door access to a BBQ in the cockpit. The Sunseeker Predator 108 is to play and party under the open stars, people buy 108's for a whale of a time, no pun intended. She is luxurious, highly evolved, elegant and we assure you, in a class all her own.

Grass lounge is a must see and be destination for Miami socialites and celebrities. Since opening their whimsical wooden doors in 2003, Grass lounge has remained memorable and ultimately chic in our hearts.  The little lounge that could helped put the unknown Design District on the international map. Grass continues to transition the downtown area into an upscale haven, attracting more and more Miami Beach-ers away from the beach. Seemingly of another world with cushy white banquettes, bamboo trees, warm starry skies, and a bar illuminated with a wall of apothecary, flower filled jars.

Like always we had a fabulous dinner at Grass last Friday night before we went out to party ourselves away. The lounge is an elegant hideaway and well worth the 10 minute drive off Miami Beach, were nothing comparable exists. Grass has quickly become a favorite haunt, perfect for a romantic date, business dinner or to make your tourist friend jealous. The contemporary American and Asian infused menu is light, the drinks are fresh and just sitting in the garden-esque restaurant is preparation enough for a phenomenal night out. Located at 28 NE 40th St, downtown, Grass Lounge is proof enough that life exists pretty perfectly outside the realm that is Miami Beach.

Bigger is better and a 405-foot motor yacht by FMYP is the best. Scheduled to launch in 2009, the P967 yacht has 14 cabins and sleeps 32 comfortably. The Frank Muldur-design features a steel hull and an aluminum deck. Powered by a 9,780-horsepower 3618 Caterpillar engine, she cruises at 16 knots and peaks at 21 knots or 24.2 mph. The bodacious beauty is painted blue and has a beam of nearly 60 feet, plenty of space for you movers and shakers.
The triple-deck gigayacht is classed as a fly bridge with a cockpit and the interior is on par with any luxury cruise ship. Boasting an atrium, indoor swimming pool and beach floor, dining areas, decks, cabin interiors, and common areas. The lower deck leads out to a second swimming pool off the rear. Perfect for large business events, parties, meetings or the ultimate business vacation.

This immense luxury-latent gigayacht is being brokered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and is priced at approximately $233,045,000 million (159,500,000 euros).
